You Are Free

This is a guest post by Meghashyam from To guest post on this blog, check guest post page.

You are free right here and now.

Maybe you thought you weren’t free.

Maybe you’re thinking: having more money will make me free and then I can do what I want to do.

Maybe you’re thinking: getting out of this job somehow will make me free. Or that having or not having that special relationship will make me free.

Or, I would be free if I did not have so much pressure from my family. Or, I would be free if I did not have a family to feed.

Nope. All that’s lies.

You are free right now, this very instant.

Nothing is stopping you right now from living in anyway you want except for your own thoughts.

Nothing outside you is stopping you.

Do you think that if you could somehow quit this job, you will then be free to do what you want? Which is – say lying on the beach in a tourist destination or maybe by the poolside and just relaxing doing nothing?

The truth is – if that is all that you wanted, you could do it right now. If you really wanted it, you could somehow manage 10 days of vacation right now and sit by the poolside. Or you could just ask for a one month leave (and quit if refused the leave) and sit by the poolside. It’s as simple as that.

Seriously, I am not kidding. It IS that simple. What about the bills then? Obviously the bills won’t be an issue till a month or two later right? By that time, you can find another job or do something else. No one in the world is stopping you from quitting your job right now and lying by the poolside.

The only thing that stops you is fear. Fear of the unknown – fear of your secure situation being disturbed,

What else do you want to do? Get out of a relationship that sucks or improve it? Nothing else needs to happen first. You can do either, right now. If you want to get out of a relationship, go ahead and tell your partner what problems you have and get out. Simple. Yes, it is that simple unless you complicate it with 100 tonnes of fear. You want to work on it to make it better? Sit down with your partner and figure out how you can make it better. Simple again. Plan what changes you people want to make. Then make them for a week and see how it goes. No need for any complaining.

You want to go and travel the world but think that there is not enough money you have?

You want to make a difference in the world but think you don’t have enough money?

The point is: you don’t need the money! And the basic money you need can be easily earned!

Let’s take traveling the world as an example. You want to travel to these 7 countries first? Search up and figure out how much it costs to travel to these countries. Look up free-stay or couch surfing opportunities. If you have a job or source of income, figure out how you can save up that much money. Simple. Save up that much money and a bit more and set off on your journey! After the journey, you can always come back and earn more money.

You want to make a difference in the world but think you first need money to feed your family?

Truly is that the problem? You can make a difference right now! While having a job, while having children, you can go ahead and volunteer. You want to quit your job and start a business but think that will affect the family? Figure out how much you want to save – a cushion amount that can help your family and start your business. If you fail, you can always find some kind of job somewhere else and start again. Thousands of people with kids and family and hardly any money have started a business and you can too – just find a way!

I’ll repeat it. Nothing stops you right now except fear. You know what to do. Taking action is so easy! All that stops is your own thoughts that say – “What if this happens, what if I don’t have enough etc.”

In reality, even if your worst fears came true, nothing would happen. You would still be alive and handle the situation. Fear is the real problem.

Wherever you are right now – whether in a dysfunctional relationship, in a job that sucks, stuck in a difficult family situation, you are free. Yes, you are. You can choose to disconnect with what you don’t want. You can choose to connect with what you want. You can choose to do everything you want – in your own situation without any excuses.

Viktor Frankl wrote a book while he was in a Nazi concentration camp – he could be gassed any time and he rocked the world! Louis Braille (blind) invented the braille script and wrote some books too. There’s Nicholas Vujicic who doesn’t have arms and legs – and who’s currently traveling the world inspiring people, telling them to live their dreams.

If these people with such huge problems could live their dreams, really, your problems are nothing – they can’t stop you from doing anything at all!

I’ll repeat it for the nth time. The only thing that is stopping you is fear. Nothing else. Go rock the world. Go ahead and pursue your deepest desires. Make a list of the things you would do if you were completely free. Yes – you can do all of those right now. Start off with the first thing on the list.

All the best. Have a wonderful day full of the fragrance of freedom!

  1. Naveen Kulkarni

Welcome to and thanks for this inspiring article.

  2. You are right. I think a lot of people feel they are confided because the are afraid to make changes. Just because you’re frightened by the options does not mean they are restricted. We need to open up our comfort zones to appreciate true freedom.

  3. Right. Fear of the unknown is our biggest enemy when it comes to making changes as well as achieving dreams. We just have to take that risk, take that big step, and start making your goals a reality.

  4. What an inspiring way to put it. “The only thing that stops you is fear. Fear of the unknown – fear of your secure situation being disturbed…” Fear of the unknown. In fact, we only fear the unknown.
