Book review – You can win by Shiv Khera

Winners don’t do different things. They do things differently – Shiv Khera

It was during year 2000 when I joined a company in New Delhi in 2000 as Associate Project Leader. It was my first job in a people management role. Believe me I was not doing well. In fact I even couldn’t understand what are my responsibilities in my new position. I was just 22 years old then.

I was technically good and could work for hours on computer without blinking my eyes and produce wonderful piece of program or results. But a people manager needed to be much more than a techie. I was clueless how should I proceed from there.

I was a very different person in those days. I never used to speak much with people or colleagues. Always thought it is enough if we have computer skills and I am done if I finish my assigned work. Simply put, I did not understand what professional growth is all about.

One Sunday, together with few friends I went to for sightseeing of New Delhi. It’s indeed a beautiful city and in our journey, we came across a street where people sell used books for a discounted price. Since I was a bookworm, I checked few books and what attracted me a book titled You can win with a caption which said Winners don’t do different things. They do things differently.

I immediately bought the book.

Same evening, as usual I went to a garden where I used to spend time alone since I liked the silent atmosphere there. I carried the book also along with me for reading it.

I started to glance through the book. Believe me, I considered myself such a lucky person to get that book. It revealed the success strategies step by step with simple examples. I actually read the whole book same day. But then decided, I must read it slowly and chapter by chapter.

You can win book guides you with step by step instructions how to go from where you are to where you want to go.
